Investment Opportunities as Ho Chi Minh City Develops Riverside Service Economy

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has instructed various departments and agencies to expedite the completion of plans for building riverbanks to develop the riverside economy. They aim to encourage investors to undertake public, commercial, service, and park projects.

The 80-kilometer Saigon River is evaluated to have significant economic development potential.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has recently issued a directive regarding the implementation of the Riverside and Riverside Economy Development Plan for Ho Chi Minh City in 2023-2024. The goal is to select feasible solutions and effective implementation methods to ensure the project's content and progress, along with various other objectives.

In this regard, the City People's Committee has entrusted the Department of Planning and Architecture to lead and collaborate with relevant departments to review construction plans and land use plans within the Saigon River protection corridor. They aim to propose planning ideas for the Saigon River corridor by consolidating data from various sectors and stakeholders to suggest adjustments in line with green infrastructure development, efficient land value exploitation along the riverbanks.

Additionally, there is a need to research and propose green technical infrastructure solutions, transportation connectivity, and a development roadmap for the overall city planning.

Coordinating efforts are also needed to ensure legal compliance in terms of management and usage of the riverbanks, along with the early completion of temporary and permanent embankment construction, green infrastructure, and riverside transportation.

Furthermore, there is a special policy to support and encourage investors to prioritize the implementation of public, commercial, service, and park projects. International cooperation is sought to research strategic planning and development management, as well as propose green infrastructure models for use along the Saigon River corridor.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has also instructed the Department of Finance to allocate budget resources for the implementation of this plan.

With approximately 80 kilometers flowing through Ho Chi Minh City, the Saigon River is seen as having immense potential for socio-economic development along its banks. In a recent meeting, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, Mr. Phan Van Mai, expressed the city's desire to develop a riverside route running from the city center to Cu Chi district to harness the economic potential and preserve the beauty of the Saigon River. Ho Chi Minh City has identified various potential riverside sectors, including transportation, waterway transport, eco-tourism, cultural and historical tourism, traditional crafts, water tourism, hotels, cuisine, entertainment, yachts, sports, and various creative economic services.
